Ashley Boynes-Shuck is a published author, award-winning blogger, freelance social media consultant, well-known social media personality and influencer, and avid health advocate and animal activist known for her inspirational self-help work in the health and wellness field, her entertainment, fashion, and pop culture savvy, and her multiple book projects, television appearances, and philanthropic works. Ashley is a public speaker and volunteer who deems herself, “a Jill of All Trades.” (get it?)

In addition to being a writer, Ashley is also a certified health coach, independent wellness advocate, and an integrative nutrition coach who recently published her first fiction novel as well as a humorous nonfiction health memoir and its more serious companion book, titled To Exist, Sick Idiot, and Chronically Positive, respectively.

Her background is diverse: she’s taken courses in education, health and wellness, fashion design, and music business, been an extra in movies, spoken before Congress, personally tweeted with Oprah Winfrey, and also was an on-air personality at 96.1 KISS fm as DJ Bonics’ intern. Boynes-Shuck was an English major and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2007, choosing to further her education at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2012. She’s currently enrolled in novel writing and screenwriting classes for fun and for personal enrichment.

Ashley has made several television appearances – both locally and nationally – and has partook in several hosting gigs. In 2011 she was named one of Pittsburgh’s Top “40 Under 40” by PUMP and Pittsburgh Magazine, as well as being nominated for a handful of WEGO Health Activist Awards. In 2012, Boynes-Shuck was voted, “Best Blogger” and “Who to Follow on Twitter” by Network Pittsburgh. Ashley was a 2012 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society “Woman of the Year” nominee, and was also nominated for an ATHENA Young Professionals Award. Also in 2012, Ashley was named a “Top 10 Online RA Expert” by the Dr. Oz website, ShareCare Now. Recently, Ashley was also nominated for a “Yahoo! Women Who Shine” award. In 2014, the Pittsburgh Business Times named her, a “Top Twitter Influencer,” and Healthline.com also recruited her to be an arthritis reporter. In 2015, Ashley was inducted into the Pittsburgh Fashion Hall of Fame. Her book, Sick Idiot, also won a Top 10 Author Award and was reviewed positively in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and the LA Times. She was one of Whirl Magazine’s Top Women in Business for 2016 and held her first book signing at Barnes & Noble in November of 2015.

Ashley’s personal website & brand, Glitzburgh, (and its coinciding social media accounts) is popular in the Pittsburgh area and is ever-expanding; she is also well known for her online patient advocacy work as Arthritis Ashley. 

A social media influencer, she has amassed over 40,000 followers across all of her various social networks and social media accounts. She has been quoted by ABC News Health, Health Monitor Magazine, FOX News Health, Teen Vogue magazine, the Today Show website, Arthritis Today Magazine, and more.

She is a seasoned writer and editor. In fact, she has been a writer and a reader for as long as she can remember. Most recently, she authored the internationally-published books To Exist, Sick Idiot, and Chronically Positive, was a co-author of the locally-published book, “Empowered in Pittsburgh,” and was also an editor on the published books “Bliss Cleanse,” and “Snack-Sized Lessons,” by Lindsey Smith and Lorraine Miller. Her husband Mike, a schoolteacher and personal trainer, has a children’s book out called Numbers Elementary: Rounding, for which Ashley helped do promotions and PR. Ashley’s book Sick Idiot was an Amazon Best-Seller. She has had her writing published in a number of magazines, a literary journal, a poetry anthology, and on several blogs and websites over the last 15+ years (including works under her maiden name, Ashley Marie Boynes.) She currently freelances for Healthline.com, in addition to being a Book Reviewer for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette newspaper.

Around the year 2012, Ashley launched the online initiative, Ultimate You Wellness, to encourage people to live a healthier, more active, and natural lifestyle. With Ultimate You Wellness, Ashley sells essential oils, offers one-on-one health coaching, and coordinates a private online support group for women who are trying to live healthier lives.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, her pets (who have their own Instagram hashtag, #shuckzoo,) family, and friends. She is involved in church and enjoys being outdoors, loves fashion and pop culture, enjoys wine, traveling, and reading, and dabbles in ukulele and astronomy. Ashley is a member of the high-IQ society MENSA International and several writing groups. She hopes to serve on a library board of directors in the future and her next goal is to join the ACLU, and become more involved in local initiatives for the disabled. 

Ms. Boynes-Shuck also loves animals, and it shows. In addition to loving her five pets, she is a board member of the animal welfare group WearWoof and a member of the Lions Club where she is very involved in their Leader Dogs for the Blind initiative. Ashley also serves as Secretary for both WearWoof and the Lions. She is a social media coordinator and fashion consultant for Paws N Claws Eyewear, which donates a portion of proceeds to the ASPCA and the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals.
