It is Saturday, November 10th, 2012, at 8:23pm EST. I started NaNoWriMo on the 7th and, as of today, I am at 21,070 words. Thus, I am almost halfway to my goal of 50,000 by the end of November.

While I am hesitant to share an excerpt from my novel, I will tell you that it involves an apocalyptic event, a likable heroine, unrequited love, murder, rape, and, yes, a lovable dog. I try to avoid cliches, but, as they are sometimes inevitable, I embrace the ones I come across with a “wink, wink” undercurrent and a self-aware approach.

I could say that this particular novel has influences ranging from the Wizard of Oz to Twilight, from Sex and the City to the Hunger Games. I truly believe that it will have something for everyone, which may be a blessing or a curse. At any rate, I look forward to finally finishing a manuscript, and I can’t wait for you all to read this so far untitled story that has quickly become my “baby.” It’s verging on formula fiction, but I’d categorize it as an action-adventure, dabbled with some romance, and geared more towards the adult market than for young adults. I’m not sure what genre to categorize it in, just yet, as I’m not a fan of labels, unless they’re on my clothes, shoes, or handbags 😉
